$cientology and NarCONon Invade Battle(field?) Creek, Michigan

At left is the historic Hart Hotel, first built by W.K. Kellogg.  I first heard of the Church of Scientology's planned purchase of the building in December of 2000.  Having seen some of Scientology's shenanigans on Usenet and their attempts at censorship, I knew this boded ill for Battle Creek.  I was inspired to write into the opinion page of the Battle Creek Enquirer, an activity that eventually earned me a visit from one John Carmichael, a well-known OSA (Office of Special Affairs) operative in Scientology.  He was sent to try to silence critical opposition to the presence of the mind-control cult he represents.  He attempted to portray Scientology as being compatible with Christianity, something that I as a believer knew better than to swallow.  Carmichael was forced to ultimately admit that they weren't compatible.  He also admitted to me that the Xenu account in the OT III level documents was in fact Scientology doctrine.

Since that time, the Church has been slowly extending its tentacles into the city, first with its "Drug Free Marshals" program and now with Narconon.  The city commissioners have all but bent over backwards for the cult, in spite of warnings from the police department that Scientology is not a safe group to have in one's community.  I will try my best to keep abreast of Scientology's actions in Battle Creek and update these pages as needed.

** Update, 3/21/03 ** - I no longer live in Battle Creek, so I won't be updating this page any further.  I wish the people of Battle Creek well, but they are often so apathetic about everything anyway that it really wasn't worth the trouble to do all this.  Battle Creek is a dying, shriveling pathetic shadow of its former self, sad to say.  May God grant the deceived Scientologists grace to see their error and turn to the One who can give true Total Freedom, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you for viewing!

http://www.battlecreekenquirer.com/news/stories/20020726/opinion/302524.html - Narconon Stone Hawk (Battle Creek) director Kate Wickstrom responds to the above letter.

She claims yet again that "The organization has been corporately separate and independent of any church or other organization since the first nonprofit public benefit corporation was founded by William Benitez on May 20, 1970."  This, however, is rather deceptive.  The groups are indeed corporately separate on paper, but are nonetheless very closely tied.  Narconon's first director, Lt. Col. Mark Jones, states:

"Throughout my period as director of Narconon, I reported to the Guardian's Office. Meetings were held at regular intervals at which the executives of the Guardian's Office determined the affairs of Narconon. All Narconon activities including the disposition of Narconon finances were approved by the Church of Scientology Assistant Guardian for Public Relations and the Assistant Guardian for Finance, Henning Heldt. From the time I became involved until I ultimately resigned, the Guardian Office controlled all directorships of Narconon, although Narconon was held out to be independent of the Church of Scientology."

In his affidavit given 27 February 1998, Mr. Jerry Whitfield stated that "We used L Ron Hubbard's techniques for getting people off drug dependency and turning them into Scientologists if we could. We were told by Dick Talbert, a Guardian Office staff member, to tell people that Narconon and Scientology were different corporations and not affiliated."

From the nefarious settlement between the Church of Scientology and the Internal Revenue Service:

"4. The social benefit and other public benefit entities discussed at
pages 1-28 through 1-42 of the June submission along with all
subsidiaries, subordinate chapters, subordinate organizations, or
sublicensees thereof (e.g., organizations that are permitted to use
particular names, copyrights, service marks, and/or technologies) are
Scientology-related entities. Thus, for example, Citizens Commission
on Human Rights, National Commission on Law Enforcement and Social
Justice, Scientology Defense Fund Trust, Association for the Better
Living and Education, Applied Scholastics Incorporated, Narconon
International, The Way to Happiness Foundation, and the Foundation for
Religious Freedom are Scientology-related entities. "

More dishonesty in Wickstrom's 7/26 letter.

It is abundantly clear from an overwhelming mountain of available evidence that the directors of Narconon and of the Church of Scientology of Battle Creek are intentionally deceiving the citizens of Battle Creek and surrounding Calhoun County.  Check my Essential Links section, there's enough reading there to keep you busy for days.
